Alice ‘Gwen’ May, country club member

Alice “Gwen” May, 90, a member of the Columbia Country Club in Chevy Chase for about four decades, died April 5 of ovarian cancer at her home in McLean. She also had a home in Gleneden Beach, Ore.

Her death was confirmed by her son, John T. May.

Mrs. May’s memberships also included the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter in Vienna.

Alice Gwendolyn Jones was born in Capitol Heights and grew up in the District. She was a 1939 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and was an administrative assistant at the U.S. Agriculture Department in the 1940s.

Her husband of 62 years, John May, died in 2009. Survivors include two children, Gwendolyn M. Cohen of Vienna and John T. May of Alexandria; and four granddaughters.
