Barbara A. Bell

Barbara A. Bell, 78, a Brentwood homemaker who worked at several Washington area department stores in the 1950s, died Dec. 11 at the Hyattsville home of her son Gary R. Bell.

She had congestive heart failure, said her granddaughter Ashley Hurle.

Barbara Ann Anderson was born in Silver Spring, where she attended Blair High School. She was a salesclerk and modeled hats at stores that included Woolworth’s, Hecht’s and Morton’s.

Her husband of 36 years, Robert E. Bell, died in 1991. Survivors include five children, Robert I. Bell, Edward A. Bell and Brenda Payne, all of Brentwood, James A. Bell of Mount Rainier and Gary R. Bell of Hyattsville; two brothers, Michael T. Anderson of Laurel and Charles H. Anderson of Chicago; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
