Barbara E. McNeal

Barbara E. McNeal, a church organist at Fourth Presbyterian Church when the congregation was in Washington and later at Temple Baptist Church in Washington, died Aug. 16 at Sunnyside Health Care in Harrisonburg, Va. She was 90.

She had dementia, her daughter Lisbeth McNeil said.

Mrs. McNeal was organist at the churches from the 1940s to the 1970s.

Barbara Ellen Waller was born in Washington. She graduated from McKinley Tech High School in 1941 and from American University in 1944 with majors in English and music.

She served on the women’s board of the old Presbyterian Home of the District of Columbia.

Mrs. McNeal, a former resident of McLean, moved in 1996 to New Hope, Va., and to Sunnyside Communities in Harrisonburg in 2008.

Her husband of 68 years, Hugh McNeal Jr., died in 2012. Survivors include five children, Lisbeth McNeal of Johnson City, Tenn., Kevin McNeal of Portland, Ore., Dara Johnson of Phoenix, Neal McNeal of Sammamish, Wash., and Ian McNeal of Moscow; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
