She was a member of the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board and volunteered with Meals on Wheels.

She had a summer cottage in Freeport, Maine.

Her husband of 58 years, Webster Whiting, died in 2001. Survivors include three children, Ann Goldberg of Falls Church, Elizabeth Cramp of Clifton and Stanwood Whiting of Baltimore; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
