Charles E. Brown, 85, a senior priest at the Catholic Church of the Resurrection in Burtonsville from 1989 until retiring in 2004, died Nov. 29 at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring. He had Parkinson’s disease and pneumonia.
The death was reported by a friend, Joan Guyther.
The Rev. Brown was a lawyer in his native Ohio before entering seminary in 1966. He was ordained in the Catholic Archdiocese of Washington in 1970 and mostly worked in this area ever since. He was pastor of Saint Paul Catholic Church in Damascus from 1982 to 1989.
In retirement, he lived at the residence at the Church of the Resurrection from 2004 to 2010. He then moved to Riderwood Village retirement community in Silver Spring.
Charles Edwin Brown was a native of Toledo and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a 1949 graduate of Brown University in Providence and a 1952 graduate of Harvard Law School.
He converted to Catholicism in 1960 and six years later entered Blessed John XXIII National Seminary in Weston, Mass.
He earned a private pilot’s license in 1975. He often traveled to Europe and stayed at elderhostels.
Survivors include a sister.
