Diane G. Burgess, real estate firm founder

Diane G. Burgess, 78, co-founder and real estate agent of House of Burgesses Realtors in the Fauquier County town of Marshall, died Jan. 20 at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis. She was an Edgewater resident.

She had cancer, said a son, L. Jeffrey Symanski.

Mrs. Burgess opened the realty company with husband L. Michael Burgess in 1990. Four years later, they established Burgess Custom Builders in Alexandria. That company built residential properties in Northern Virginia. She served as company secretary and treasurer until late last year.

Diane Glenn King was a native Washingtonian and a 1952 graduate of Washington-Lee High School in Arlington.

She was a chairperson for the Colonial Republican Women’s Club in Alexandria.

Her first two marriages, to Raymond Symanski Sr. and George Losyk, ended in divorce.

Besides her husband of 30 years, of Edgewater, survivors include two sons from her first marriage, Raymond Symanski of Arlington and L. Jeffrey Symanski of Marshall; and four grandchildren.
