Edward Malatesta, 101, an employee of the D.C. government who retired in 1973 from the Department of Finance and Revenue, died Nov. 8 at his home in Alexandria.

He had congestive heart failure, said his sister-in-law, Rose Marie Malatesta.

Mr. Malatesta had worked for the D.C. government for more than 25 years.

Ettore Malatesta was born in Mosciano Sant’Angelo, Italy, and came to the United States as a baby. He officially changed his first name to Edward after becoming a U.S. citizen in 1937.

Mr. Malatesta served with the Army Air Forces in Europe, Africa and the Pacific during World War II. He lived for more than 60 years in Southeast Washington until moving to Virginia four years ago.

Survivors include a brother, John Malatesta of Alexandria.
