F. Michael Alexander, produce manager

F. Michael Alexander, 68, a retired produce manger for Giant food stores, died April 21 at Capital Caring hospice in Arlington of complications related to emphysema and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He lived in Alexandria.

His niece, Elizabeth Troncoso, confirmed his death.

Fred Michael Alexander was born in Andalusia, Ala., and grew up in Alexandria.

He attended George Washington High School and, in his teens, appeared on Milt Grant’s teen dance show on television.

Mr. Alexander served in the Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk during the Vietnam War.

He began his career with Giant after leaving the Navy and retired in 2007 from the Giant store in Burke after about 30 years with the company.

Survivors include two sisters, Linda Skube of Front Royal, Va., and Jacquelyn Alexander of Alexandria.
