James B. Marschall, 75, the former chief financial officer of Mitchell & Best Home Builders in Rockville, died of lung cancer and heart disease Sept. 1 at a hospital in Hilton Head, S.C.

The death was confirmed by his daughter, Carolyn Marschall.

Mr. Marschall was with Mitchell & Best from 1986 until he retired in 1998. Earlier, he was with E.C. Ernst Electrical Contractors in Washington, where he was financial vice president.

James Bernard Marschall was a native of Hastings, Minn., and a 1961 business administration graduate of the University of Maryland. He served in the Army from 1955 to 1958.

He had been a volunteer with St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church in Wheaton and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Rockville.

In retirement, Mr. Marschall moved from Rockville to Sun City/Hilton Head, S.C.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Anne Hunley Marschall of Sun City/Hilton Head; a daughter, Carolyn Marschall of Damascus; a brother; four sisters; and five grandchildren. A daughter, Linda Mary Marschall, died in 1976.
