James M. Power, dentist

James M. Power, 84, a dentist who practiced in New Carrollton for nearly four decades until his retirement in 1998, died April 14 at the Washington Home and Community Hospices.

He had heart ailments, said his daughter Maureen Sanelli.

James Michael Power was born in New Haven, Conn., and moved to the Washington area as a boy. He graduated in 1947 from the old St. Charles College in Catonsville, a high school seminary, and received a DDS degree from Georgetown University in 1955.

Dr. Power opened his private practice after serving in the U.S. Public Health Service. He had lived for more than four decades in Mitchellville before returning to the District in 2011.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Mary Schichtel Power of the District; three children, Maureen Sanelli of Silver Spring, Laura Kiley of Chevy Chase and Matthew Power of Mitchellville; and eight grandchildren.
