Jan G. Beatty, 81, local golfer and former president of the Women’s District of Columbia Golf Association, died Dec. 13 at a hospital in Boca Raton, Fla.
She had multiple system organ failure, said her daughter, C. Leith Beatty.
Jan Geddes was born in Springfield, Ill., and moved to Chevy Chase as a teenager. She graduated from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School in 1949 and the District’s old Mount Vernon Junior College in 1951. Throughout college, she participated in synchronized swimming.
Mrs. Beatty was an honorary member of the WDCGA and served as its president in 1982 and 1983. She was also a rules official for the U.S. Golf Association in the Washington area.
In 1987, she hit a hole-in-one at Washington Golf and Country Club in Arlington County, her family said.
She had divided her time between Rockville and Boca Raton since the 1970s and was a member of Columbia Country Club in Chevy Chase.
Her husband of 57 years, Robert Beatty, died in 2009.
Survivors include four children, C. Leith Beatty of Kensington, Robert Beatty Jr. of Edgewater, James Beatty of Gaithersburg and Steven Beatty of Sunset, Utah; and six grandchildren.
