Juanita J. Oleson, military wife and volunteer

Juanita J. Oleson, 91, an Army colonel’s wife who was active in Virginia Democratic Party politics, died Dec. 16 at Reston Hospital Center.

She had multiple myeloma, a form of cancer, said her son, Gary Oleson.

Mrs. Oleson, a Reston resident, was a past member of the Fairfax County Democratic Committee and a 1976 delegate to the Virginia Democratic Convention.

Juanita June Wilkinson was born in Duncan, Okla. During World War II, she worked as a secretary at the headquarters of oil services giant Halliburton and volunteered as a candy striper at an Army hospital in Duncan.

She moved to the Washington area in 1962.

She was a member of Fairfax United Methodist Church.

Her husband of 57 years, retired Army Col. Ivan Oleson, died in 2003. Survivors include two children, Gary Oleson of Potomac Falls and Diane Bird of Reston; a sister; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
