Lili Bermant, 83, a retired mediator in Montgomery County, died May 8 in Pelham, Mass., after tripping during a hike. A newspaper in Amherst, Mass., said she tumbled 20 to 30 feet off of a trail.
Mrs. Bermant moved to Amherst in 2009 after living in Potomac for more than 40 years.
She and her husband, Ozzie Bermant, owned a private practice called the Concordia Group until his death in 1998. She then worked as a mediator for the Montgomery County Circuit Court until 2008.
She was a volunteer with the Conflict Resolution Center of Montgomery County, where she focused on Spanish-language mediations.
In the late 1960s and early 1970s, she worked for the Montgomery County school system as a home-instruction teacher.
Liliane Maringer was a native of Antwerp, Belgium, and fled to Cuba with her family during World War II.
She was a 1949 graduate of Brooklyn College. In 1979, she received a master’s degree in administration from what is now McDaniel College in Westminster, Md.
Survivors include two children, Charles Bermant of Port Townsend, Wash., and Julie Bermant of Amherst; and one granddaughter.
