Marianne P. Patterson, 90, a former insurance claims manager who worked in Washington for 30 years, died Jan. 26 at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda after a heart attack.

A daughter, Andrea Edwards, confirmed the death.

In 1953, Mrs. Patterson began her career at the now-defunct Pearl Assurance Co. in Washington. She retired in 1983 from what is now the District of Columbia Property Insurance Facility after about a decade working there.

Marianne Teresa Powers was born in Lawrence, Mass, and moved to the Washington area in 1945.

She was a member of the National Association of Insurance Women, which named her woman of the year in 1978.

In 2003, she moved from Takoma Park to the Leisure World retirement community in Silver Spring. In January, she relocated to the Kensington Park Retirement Community.

Her husband of 63 years, Robert Patterson, died in 2007. Survivors include four children, James Patterson of Silver Spring, Eleanor O’Donnell of Rockville, Paula Mack of Tucson, Ariz., and Andrea Edwards of Benicia, Calif.; nine granddaughters; and five great-grandchildren.
