Marvin Wadler, 84, who had an internal medicine practice in Bethesda for nearly 40 years, died of pneumonia March 9 at the Potomac Valley Nursing & Wellness Center in Rockville.

A son, Douglas Wadler, confirmed the death.

Dr. Wadler, a Bethesda resident, maintained his practice from 1960 until his retirement in 1998.

Marvin Wadler was born in New York City, attended Cornell University and received a medical degree from the University of Buffalo in New York in 1953. He was an Army medical officer at the Pentagon from 1955 to 1957. He completed his residency at a hospital in Milwaukee before settling in the Washington area in 1960.

His wife of 35 years, Joan Bourne Wadler, died in 1989. Survivors include three sons, Jeffrey Wadler of Ocean Pines, Md., Mark Wadler of Sunnyvale, Calif., and Douglas Wadler of Potomac; and five grandchildren.
