Mary Ellen Gormley, administrative assistant

Mary Ellen Gormley, 90, who did administrative work in the 1970s at Gormley-Wareham Associates, a Montgomery County engineering firm that was co-founded by her husband, died Nov. 8 at Frostburg Village’s assisted living facility in Western Maryland.

She had congestive heart failure, said her son Tom Gormley.

Mary Ellen Higgins was a District native and a graduate of Holy Trinity School in Washington. She lived in Prince George’s County from the 1940s until moving to Anne Arundel County in the 1970s. She lived at the Leisure World retirement community in Silver Spring for a decade before moving to Frostburg early this year.

Mrs. Gormley belonged to Our Lady of Grace Church in Silver Spring and Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in West River, Md. She was a past president of the women’s guild at Our Lady of Sorrows.

She had been a member of the College Park Lionettes and a docent at the Smithsonian Institution.

Her husband of 62 years, John J. Gormley Jr., died in 2004. Survivors include two sons, Tom Gormley of Eagle River, Alaska, and Patrick Gormley of Frostburg; and three grandchildren.
