Michael Wilder, 48, a manager who worked for the AT&T and Nextel communications companies, died Nov. 12 at his home in Centreville, Va.

He had a brain tumor, said his wife, Sonja Wilder.

Mr. Wilder began his career in 1987 as an AT&T account representative and was promoted several times before joining Nextel in 1999 as a senior manager. He remained with Nextel until 2002, when he was no longer able to work because of his illness.

Michael Vincent Wilder was born in Knoxville, Tenn., and grew up in Northern Virginia. He was a 1982 graduate of Woodbridge Senior High School. He received a bachelor’s degree in communications from Marymount University in 1990 and a master’s degree in human resources from American University in 1993.

Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Sonja Uttech Wilder, and two daughters, Rachel Wilder and Erica Wilder, all of Centreville; and a brother, Dave Wilder of Lake Ridge, Va.
