Michael Yasher, a certified public accountant who worked at the General Accounting Office for almost 30 years, died Feb. 27 at the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata, Md. He was 85.
The cause was sepsis and complications resulting from a broken leg incurred in a fall, according to his son, Butch Yasher.
Mr. Yasher worked at what is now the Government Accountability Office from 1956 until his retirement in 1985.
Mr. Yasher was born in United, Pa., near Pittsburgh. He served in the Air Force from 1948 to 1952 and later in the Air Force Reserve, retiring as a colonel in 1988. He was a 1956 graduate of Pennsylvania State University.
In 1983, he received a master’s degree in business administration from the Washington program of Central Michigan University.
He was a resident of Leisure World in Silver Spring, Md., and competed in the Maryland Senior Olympics and in Montgomery County’s senior softball circuit.
His wife of 30 years, Margaret Wallace Yasher, died in 1987.
Survivors include a son, Butch Yasher of La Plata, and a sister.
