Myra D. Harrod, 87, who worked as a secretary for the Arlington County public school system for 16 years, died Dec. 5 of congestive heart failure at her home in Arlington.
The death was confirmed by a son, William Harrod.
From 1978 until her retirement 1984, Mrs. Harrod was a secretary for an assistant superintendent in Arlington. She previously worked as an instructional secretary at Wakefield and Washington-Lee high schools, both in Arlington, from 1968 to 1978.
Earlier in her career, she worked as a secretary for the Navy Department.
Myra Helen Doyle was born on a farm near Marietta, Ohio.
She was a former PTA president of Barcroft Elementary School in Arlington. She was member of the Arlington Presbyterian Church and president of its women’s group.
Her husband of 38 years, Francis Harrod, died in 1984.
Survivors include three sons, Lawrence Harrod of Port Charlotte, Fla., Jeffrey Harrod of Bradenton, Fla., and William Harrod of Fairfax; a twin sister, Mabel Anderson of Silver Spring; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
