Nancy C. Reed, 83, a former Arlington County resident who played the organ at religious institutions in the Washington area, died March 6 at a health care facility in Seminole, Fla.

Her death, from dementia, was confirmed by her husband, John A. Reed Jr.

Nancy Arlene Campbell was born in Scranton, Pa. She graduated in 1951 from Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., where she studied the piano and pipe organ. She did graduate studies in organ music in Belgium and France.

Mrs. Reed lived in the Washington area from 1959 to 1992 except for periods in Paris, London and Bonn, where her husband was posted on diplomatic assignments.

She played the organ at Grace Episcopal Church in Alexandria and All Souls Unitarian Church, Adas Israel synagogue and Mount Vernon Place United Methodist Church, all in Washington.

She moved to Newfane, Vt., in 1992 and later to St. Petersburg, Fla.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, John A. Reed Jr. of St. Petersburg and Newfane; four children, John A. Reed III of Fairfax, Calif., Jeffrey J. Reed of Allentown, Pa., Jamie C. Reed of Falls Church and Elizabeth R. Poland of Andover, Mass.; and eight grandchildren.
