Clive Burr, 56, a former drummer with the heavy metal band Iron Maiden, died March 12 at his home in London. He had multiple sclerosis.
The band announced the death on its Web site.
Born in London, Mr. Burr joined Iron Maiden in 1979 and played on the band’s first three albums, “Iron Maiden,” “Killers” and “The Number of the Beast.” He contributed to the band’s distinctive hard-driving sound on classic songs such as “Run to the Hills” but left in 1982, before Iron Maiden became 1980s mega-stars.
He went on to play with several rock and heavy metal bands before being diagnosed in the mid-1990s with primary progressive multiple sclerosis.
