Rebecca Eshenbaugh, 66, who retired last year as a senior caseworker for then-Rep. Paul E. Kanjorski (D-Pa.), died of respiratory failure Nov. 25 at her home in Alexandria.

The death was confirmed by a niece, Persis Sosiak.

Ms. Eshenbaugh spent more than 25 years on Kanjorski’s staff until the congressman lost a reelection bid in 2010. Earlier, she worked for Democratic congressmen Frank G. Harrison and Allen E. Ertel, both of Pennsylvania, and Kenneth Hechler of West Virginia.

Rebecca Lou Eshenbaugh was a native of Fairmont, W.Va., and a 1970 social work graduate of West Virginia University. She was a social worker in Logan, W.Va., before starting her career on Capitol Hill in 1974.

Her marriage to Michael McCumber ended in divorce. Survivors include two children, Amie McCumber of Kensington and Edwin T. McCumber of Gaithersburg; a sister; and two grandchildren.
