Rita E. Hackman, 99, who did clerical work for the National Society of the Children of the American Revolution and Garfinckel’s department store at Montgomery Mall, died Jan. 21 at a western Maryland retirement community after a stroke.

A daughter, Diane Lampe, confirmed the death. She said her mother died at Goodwill Retirement Community in Grantsville, Md.

Mrs. Hackman, a former Bethesda homemaker, worked at the heritage society in the mid-1970s and then at Garfinckel’s until the early 1980s.

Rita Eleanor McCormick was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and completed high school in Roselle, N.J. She settled in the Washington area in 1947.

She was a past member of St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church and Kenwood Golf and Country Club, both in Bethesda.

Her husband of 55 years, Kenneth Hackman Sr., died in 1992. Survivors include three children, Patricia Cummins of Montross, Va., Diane Lampe of Laurel and Kenneth Hackman Jr. of Southern Pines, N.C.; a sister; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
