Robert M. Turton, who had been an optician with the Costco Wholesale optical department in Fairfax County for the past 21 years, died Dec. 16 at Montgomery Hospice’s Casey House in Rockville. He was 71.

The cause was complications from strokes and pancreatic cancer, said his daughter Marguerite M. Recicar.

Robert Michael Turton was born in Lorain, Ohio. He served in the Army from 1962 to 1966 and, for the last two years of his service, was posted at Fort Myer, Va.

He attended the University of Maryland’s University College and Montgomery College. He was a Rockville resident.

His first marriage, to Maria Joosse, ended in divorce. Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Julia Diaz Turton of Rockville; a daughter from his first marriage, Marguerite M.
