Robert Sigethy
Air Force colonel, business school dean

Robert Sigethy, a retired Air Force colonel who later became dean of the School of Business Administration at Marymount University in Arlington County, died Feb. 8 at his home in Fairfax County. He was 82.

The cause was cancer, his daughter Alison Sigethy said.

Col. Sigethy served in the Air Force from 1953 to 1983. He was assigned to the Washington area for much of that period in jobs related to research and development, missile operations and education.

Immediately before his Air Force retirement, he was dean of faculty and academic programs at the Industrial College of the Armed Forces and held the Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair of Military Studies.

Robert Sigethy was born in Jersey City, N.J., and graduated from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., in 1953. He received a doctorate in public administration from American University in 1980.

He served on the faculty at Marymount’s School of Business Administration from 1983 to 2004 and was dean from 1989 to 2002.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Jacqueline A. Burns Sigethy of Fairfax; and two daughters, Alexis Slebodnick of Clifton, Va., and Alison Sigethy of Alexandria.
