Ron Chitwood, certified auto mechanic

Ron Chitwood, a certified auto mechanic who worked for much of his career at the Goodyear auto-service center on Rockville Pike, died June 19 at Montgomery Hospice’s Casey House in Rockville. He was 44.

The cause was multiple myeloma, said his father, Richard B. Chitwood Sr.

Ronald William Chitwood was born in Bethesda and graduated in 1986 from Rockville High School. He was an auto mechanic for more than 20 years and had also worked for Sunoco. He lived in the Aspen Hill area of Montgomery County.

His hobbies included scuba diving,radio-controlled cars and restoring vintage arcade games. He belonged to St. Bartholomew Catholic Parish in Bethesda.

Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Patty Zarnick Chitwood of Aspen Hill; three children, Veronica Chitwood, Hailey Chitwood and Jasmine Chitwood, all of Aspen Hill; his father and stepmother, Richard B. Chitwood Sr. and M. Ellen Chitwood of Frederick; three brothers; and two sisters.
