Rosemary Niven, 89, a member of the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Kensington and past treasurer of its religious education program, died Sept. 6 at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring.
She had complications from a hernia surgery, said her daughter Patricia Niven.
Rosemary Buskirk was born in Montrose, Colo., and attended the University of Denver. During World War II, she was a Navy Wave stationed at Terminal Island, Calif.
She accompanied her husband on his academic career before settling in the Washington area in 1963. She was a Chevy Chase resident.
Her husband of 63 years, Harold F. Niven Jr., died in 2009. Survivors include three children, Harold F. Niven of Bellingham, Wash., Beverly Spriggens of Waharoa, New Zealand, and Patricia Niven of Chevy Chase; a brother; two granddaughters; and a great-grandson.
