Ruth Bigelson, a stay-at-home mom who resumed her formal education when her own children reached high school, died Dec. 20 at her home in Chevy Chase. She was 94.

The cause was cancer, said her son-in-law Martin Woodard.

Ruth Kaplow was born in Dushore, Pa. She settled in the Washington area shortly after World War II and raised four children at her home in Kensington. Eight years ago, she moved to Chevy Chase.

In 1976, she graduated from George Washington University.

She was a member of Ohr Kodesh Congregation in Chevy Chase and Hadassah.

Her husband of 43 years, Arthur Bigelson, died in 2000. Survivors include four children, Darshan Khalsa of Reston, Va., Cheryl Woodard of Sperryville, Va., Janice Drohan of Washington and Wendy Bigelson of Boulder, Colo.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
