Susan E. Gajewski, certified public accountant

Susan E. Gajewski, 43, a certified public accountant who became a homemaker and volunteer, died Feb. 8 at her home in Fairfax County.

The cause of death was a heart attack, said her husband, Jeff Gajewski.

Mrs. Gajewski worked for the accounting and consulting firms KPMG and Booz Allen Hamilton before becoming a homemaker about 10 years ago.

She was a volunteer at Lees Corner Elementary School in Fairfax County and for her children’s activities, which included sports teams and a chess club. She was also involved in youth activities in her neighborhood, Franklin Glen.

She was a member of St. Veronica Catholic Church in Chantilly.

Susan Elizabeth Van Alstyne was born in Denver and raised in New Orleans. She was a 1991 accounting graduate of Georgetown University.

Survivors include her husband of 11 years, Jeffrey Gajewski, and their sons, Patrick Gajewski and Kevin Gajewski, all of Fairfax County; her parents, Dorothy and Gibson Van Alstyne of Fairfax County; and a brother.
