Virginia P. Waldner, a secretary to the head of the humanities department at Northern Virginia Community College in Annandale from 1972 to 1986, died Dec. 21 at her home in Annandale. She was 95.

The cause was breast cancer, said her daughter-in-law, Carole Waldner.

Virginia Perkins was born in Hamilton, N.C., and was a stenography graduate of the old Hardbarger’s Secretarial School in Raleigh, N.C. She settled in the Washington region in 1960 and received an associate’s degree from Northern Virginia Community College in 1978.

Mrs. Waldner was presented with the 2010 outstanding senior adult award from Fairfax County for her work with Snappy Tappers, a senior dance troupe that performs in the Washington area.

While in Tokyo when her husband was on a military assignment there, she studied ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arranging. She was a founding member of Ravensworth Baptist Church in Annandale.

Her husband of 35 years, retired Navy Cmdr. Edward Waldner, died in 1980.

Survivors include two sons, Michael Waldner of Burke, Va., and Sean Waldner of Springfield, Va.; and two grandsons.
