William F. Stanton, phone company employee

William F. Stanton, 59, who retired from Verizon in 2003 after a career in installation and repair, died Feb. 1 at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville.

The cause was a heart attack. A sister, Lynn Stanton, confirmed the death.

Mr. Stanton, a Montgomery Village resident, worked for Verizon and its predecessors starting in the early 1970s.

William Francis Stanton, who was known as Billy, was born in Washington and raised in Silver Spring. He was a 1971 graduate of Paint Branch High School in Burtonsville.

His marriage to Carmen Talbot ended in divorce.

Besides his sister, of Silver Spring, survivors include two daughters, Carey Stanton of Manvel, Texas, and Raven Stanton of Katy, Texas; three brothers, Patrick Stanton of Silver Spring, Robert Stanton of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Sean Stanton of Pottstown, Pa.; another sister, Mary Catherine Fibich of West River, Md.; and one granddaughter.
