The death of a Georgetown student on spring break in the Dominican Republic was due to natural causes, according to a school official.

Georgetown sent a campus-wide e-mail Sunday announcing the death of Mark Adamsson, a junior in the School of Foreign Service.

Georgetown spokeswoman Rachel Pugh said Tuesday that Adamsson’s cause of death was “lung and heart failure due to medical reasons.”

Todd Olson, vice president of student affairs at Georgetown, told the campus community that Adamsson had been on the trip with other students.

A native of Sweden, Adamsson attended Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass., where he played for the tennis team. At Georgetown, he was active in a student-run fund called the Zeeba Investment Group.
