One person fatally struck by Amtrak train in New Carrollton

A person was fatally struck by an Amtrak train Sunday morning near the New Carrollton station in Prince George’s County, authorities said.

The victim was struck shortly before 8:30 a.m. by a train en route to New York, an Amtrak spokesman said. No one on board the train was injured.

Trains were single-tracking in the area near the accident, which took place just south of the station. Travelers can expect delays of about 30 minutes, the spokesman said; it is unknown when normal service will resume.

No information was immediately available about the victim’s identity or the circumstances around the collision.
