A woman was struck by a vehicle and injured Thursday near the old Walter Reed military hospital in Northwest Washington, D.C. police said.

The accident happened shortly before 5 p.m. in the 6700 block of Georgia Avenue, where police found the injured woman conscious and alert, said Officer Paul Metcalf, a spokesman. Authorities took the woman to a hospital with injuries that were serious, but not believed to be life threatening.
