Police arrest man in October assault

A Southeast Washington man has been arrested in connection with an October assault involving a gun, police said Sunday.

D.C. Police said 21-year-old Colin Brown was arrested Thursday on a charge of assault with intent to kill. The assault occurred on Oct. 5, in the 1700 block of Minnesota Avenue Southeast, police said.

Man shot at Union
Station is identified

A man who was shot at Union Station on Saturday night in a confrontation with an off-duty Baltimore County police officer from Maryland was identified Sunday by D.C. police as Rashad Bugg-Bey, 25, of Northeast Washington.

Police said he was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon.

According to police, a man slashed a woman with a knife about 8:15 p.m. just outside the entrance to the Metro station at Union Station. The victim and the assailant, who still had the knife, went toward the officer, police said.

As the man approached the officer, the officer ordered him to drop the knife, but he did not and was shot. District police said the officer was a Baltimore County officer.

Dead man found outside apartment

Prince George’s County homicide detectives are investigating the death of an unidentified man whose body was found early Sunday outside a Langley Park apartment building.

Police said the man was found with trauma to his upper body about 6:15 a.m. in the 7900 block of 14th Avenue. He was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy was being scheduled.

Detectives also were investigating a triple murder in Oxon Hill late Friday. Clifford John Browne Jr., 34, of Capitol Heights was charged in the deaths of Lakeysha Walters, 40; her daughter Shaneka Walters, 25; and James Gibson, 45. A police spokesman said Sunday that Browne had a relationship with Shaneka Walters.

Woman’s body
found by parkway

A body was found early Saturday near a bridge on the Baltimore Washington Parkway in the Laurel area, the U.S. Park Police said.

The body, described as that of a deceased woman, was found next to an abutment for the southbound span of the Patuxent River Bridge, said Sgt. Anna Rose, a spokeswoman for the Park Police.

She said no identification has been made.Hunters spotted the body shortly before 6 a.m. An autopsy has been scheduled.

VIRGINIA
VRE station opening in Spotsylvania

After nearly a decade of planning, a new Virginia Railway Express station in Spotsylvania County is scheduled to open Monday with a train departing for Washington at 4:57 a.m.

Six more trains are slated to follow.

Crews worked through the weekend to put finishing touches on the terminal, southwest of U.S. 17 and Crossroads Parkway, and prepare for Monday’s debut.

VRE and county officials say the station is an important milestone in VRE’s expansion plans, which include adding a station at the Potomac Shores community south of Woodbridge and extending the Manassas line to Gainesville and Haymarket.
