Police charge Edward Murphy with robbing bank near Navy Yard

A 51-year-old man has been charged with robbing a bank on Tuesday near the Navy Yard Metro station in Southeast Washington, according to D.C. police.

Edward Darrell Murphy, of Northeast, was charged with one count of robbery. Police said he was arrested a little more than three hours after the holdup, which occurred about 12:30 p.m.

Police said a man walked into the SunTrust Bank in the 100 block of M St. SE and handed a teller a note demanding money. He did not show a weapon, police said. He left with an undisclosed amount of money.

Police said that officers and FBI agents arrested the suspect at 3:45 p.m.
