Police identify Purcellville teen killed by officer in weekend shooting

Authorities identified 17-year-old Christian Alberto Sierra of Purcellville as the teen who was killed in a police officer involved shooting over the weekend.

Sierra was shot shortly after a 911 call at 2:12 p.m. Saturday, said Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corrine N. Geller.

The 911 caller, Geller said, asked police to help with a 17-year-old who was threatening suicide at a Frazer Drive home in the town west of Leesburg. She said the teen, who was identified Sunday as Sierra, was armed with a knife and lunged at an officer.

The officer shot Sierra, who was later transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. Geller said an autopsy is pending and that state police are investigating.

The Purcellville Police Department has not released the name of the officer involved in the shooting. The officer was placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of the investigation, the department’s chief said in a statement.
