Gov. Bob McDonnell (R) asked Virginians to send in photos of their workplaces observing “Black and Gold Day” Friday in honor of the Virginia Commonwealth University basketball team, and they delivered.

McDonnell’s office has been posting photos on his Web site, and they are decidedly adorable. Most seem to come from Richmond, which has gone head-over-heels crazy for the VCU Rams during their upstart five-game winning streak through the NCAA tournament.

Dominion Virginia’s headquarters building in downtown Richtown has been displaying the words “VCU GO RAMS” in lights each night this week. Politicians at every level are making bets with their counterparts in Indiana, home to the Butler Bulldogs whom VCU will take on in Saturday’s Final Four game.

Workers this morning were busily unloading crowd control barriers in Monroe Park at the heart of VCU’s campus.

McDonnell had told his staff that they could dress down Friday, provided they wore VCU’s black and gold colors and made donations to the school’s Massey Cancer Center. He had urged other businesses to do the same.
