Rat terrier left at store: 4500 block, Mitchellville Rd., Bowie, May 5. A store employee reported that someone brought a dog into the store inside a kennel and sat it on a shelf. When they noticed the kennel, the owner was gone. An animal control officer picked up a 2-year-old tricolored male rat terrier. When not claimed, the dog was taken to a rescue group May 15.

Overnight discovery: 2500 Moores Plains Blvd., Upper Marlboro, May 7. A woman reported that someone tied a stray dog in front of her house the previous night. She had no idea where the dog came from or who the owner was. An animal control officer removed the 1-year-old brindle-colored female American bulldog mix. The dog was returned to its owner the next day.

Black Lab loose: 3400 block, Forest Rose Ct., District Heights, May 7. A woman requested pickup of a stray dog she had been taking care of for a week while attempting to find the owner. An officer picked up the 8-month-old black male Labrador retriever. When not claimed, the puppy was adopted May 15.

Baby opossum in kitchen: 6300 block, Buttercup Lane, Upper Marlboro, May 9. Someone reported seeing a baby opossum behind the refrigerator in their kitchen. An animal control officer retrieved the opossum and returned it to the wild.

Kitten thrown in hole: 3400 block, Toledo Terr., Hyattsville, May 9. Someone reported seeing a young girl throw a kitten inside of a hole in a laundry room. The caller said the kitten appeared to be injured from the throw. An officer retrieved the 2-month-old male orange domestic longhaired kitten. The kitten was bathed and treated for fleas and ear mites and then taken to a rescue group May 10.

Ferret undercover: 10700 block, Castleton Turn, Upper Marlboro, May 10. A person reported a ferret lying under a vehicle. An animal control officer removed the sable-colored male ferret, which had an old wound on its leg that was healing. When not claimed, the animal was taken to a rescue group.

Bowie pet adoptions: The Prince George’s County SPCA/Humane Society is sponsoring cat and dog adoptions from noon-2 p.m. Saturday at PetSmart, 4500 Mitchellville Rd., Bowie.
