Off-duty officer holds dog: 15400 block, Bealle Hill Rd., Accokeek, July 23. An off-duty police officer reported holding a stray dog in his back yard that he found running loose. An animal control officer picked up the 1-year-old black male Akita. The dog’s owner was found, and he was returned home that day.
Sleeping dog in driveway: 6300 block, Buckler Rd., Clinton, July 23. A woman reported a stray dog sleeping in her driveway. She said she set out food and water for the dog. An officer removed the 13-year-old black male German shepherd mix. The dog was reunited with its owner the next day.
Bichon frise found near pond: 6800 block, Jade Ct., Capitol Heights, July 24. A woman called animal management to report finding a stray dog running loose at a pond near her home. An officer picked up the 6-year-old white male bichon frise wearing a red nylon collar. The dog was reunited with its owner that day.
Confined to kennel: 4500 block, Payne Dr., Fort Washington, July 24. A man reported holding a stray dog that wandered into his back yard. The man said he had confined the dog to a kennel in the yard. An animal control officer picked up the 1-year-old fawn-colored female boxer. When not claimed, the dog was taken to a rescue group Aug. 1.
Police station pick up: 4900 block, Tilden Rd., Bladensburg, July 25. Animal management received a call from the police to request pickup of a stray dog that was found tied at a gas station. An animal control officer picked up the 5-year-old brown male Labrador retriever mix wearing a red nylon collar. The dog was reunited with its owner the next day.
Upper Marlboro low-cost animal clinic: The Prince George’s County Department of Environmental Resources’ Animal Management Division will sponsor a low-cost wellness and vaccine clinic from noon to 3 p.m. the first and third Thursday of each month at the Spay Spot Clinic, 3750 Brown Station Rd., Upper Marlboro. 301-254-8151, www.thespayspot.org.
Dog and cat adoptions: The Prince George’s County SPCA/Humane Society is sponsoring cat and dog adoptions from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at PetSmart, 12020 Cherry Hill Rd., Silver Spring.
