Spring burning laws are in effect until April 30

The spring burning law went into effect Friday, Prince William County officials said.

The law prohibits open-air burning before 4 p.m. daily until April 30 if the fire is in or within 300 feet of woodland, brush land or fields containing dry grass or other flammable materials. Violations could result in a misdemeanor punishable by a fine.

Zonta International offers scholarships for seniors

Zonta International of Prince William County, a nonprofit organization that works to globally advance the status of women, is accepting applications from female high school seniors for the foundation’s scholarships and awards program.

Firefighters to check child seats Saturday afternoon

The Prince William County Fire and Rescue Department, in conjunction with the Lake Jackson Volunteer Fire Department, will host a child seat education and inspection event from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at 11310 Coles Dr. in Manassas.
