Shuttle service begins between Occoquan, Lorton

A new shuttle service between the Lorton Amtrak Auto Train Station and Occoquan is running from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

The shuttle service is provided through an agreement between Amtrak and Occoquan Mayor Earnest W. Porta Jr.’s Occoquan Transportation Co. The shuttle will also stop at the Lorton Workhouse Arts Center. A round-trip ticket is $5; children 12 and younger ride for free.

Arbor Day Foundation names Manassas Tree City

For the 23rd year, Manassas has been named a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation.

Manassas achieved the recognition by meeting the program’s four requirements: having a tree board or department, a tree-care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

Parks and Recreation veteran chosen as director

Debra D. Andrew has been named director of the Prince William County Department of Parks and Recreation after a national search.

Andrew, who was acting director, has been with the department for 27 years. She previously was the director of operations, planning and support services.
