Prince William County news in brief

County police to step up seat-belt enforcement

Prince William County police will kick off the Click It or Ticket seat-belt enforcement campaign May 20 with high-visibility patrols throughout the county.

The department reminds drivers that seat belts are mandatory for anyone riding in the front seat. Virginia law also states that:

→Children 7 and younger must ride in a secured, federally approved safety seat.

→Children 8 to 15 must use a safety seat, booster seat or seat belt.

→It is the driver’s responsibility to make sure passengers 15 and younger are properly secured.

→Police may cite the driver if passengers 15 or younger are not using seat belts or not properly secured in a child-safety seat.

The national Click It or Ticket campaign runs through June 2.

Student musicians sought for Youth Orchestras

The Youth Orchestras of Prince William will hold auditions Monday at Gar-Field High School, 14000 Smoketown Rd., Woodbridge, and May 20 at Patriot High School, 10504 Kettle Run Rd., Nokesville.

The orchestra is looking for student musicians who play the viola, bass, bassoon, horn, trumpet or trombone.
