Bar association honors 16 at-risk youths at Beat the Odds banquet

The Prince William County Bar Association recently honored 16 youths during the annual Beat the Odds banquet and awards ceremony.

Modeled on the National Children’s Defense Fund, the program recognizes students who have come in contact with the Prince William juvenile justice system and have overcome adversity to achieve their social and academic potential.

Guidance counselors, probation officers, case workers and others who work with at-risk youths nominated students for a Phoenix award or scholarship. Students received $40,000 in scholarships and awards.
