A public meeting to discuss the upcoming closing of Jefferson Street/Old Carolina Road over Interstate 66 will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Haymarket Town Hall, 15000 Washington St.
The Virginia Department of Transportation and Shirley Contracting staff members will answer questions about the bridge closing and demolition work scheduled to begin in mid-September. The project is expected to take six to eight weeks, weather permitting.
During the closing, traffic will be detoured onto Heathcote Boulevard, Catharpin Road and Washington Street.

The deadline to register for the 2014 Northern Virginia Senior Olympics is Aug. 29 for mail registration and Sept. 5 for online registration. The Senior Olympics are open to people 50 and older who live in a sponsoring jurisdiction, including Prince William County. Registration forms are available online and at senior and community centers and senior residences.
Celebrating 32 years, the Northern Virginia Senior Olympics will be Sept. 13 to 24 at 19 sites across the area. New events this year include a 5K road race, American-style mah jongg, handball and rowing.

The public is invited to a memorial ceremony for the remains and artifacts found at the site of the county’s 12th high school, which were reinterred on the property last week.
The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. Sept. 6 at the new burial site.
Bus transportation will leave from the Edward Kelly Leadership Center, 14715 Bristow Rd., Manassas, at 9:45 a.m. Parking will not be available at the site.
