Prince William special ed panel will meet Tuesday

The Special Education Advisory Committee for Prince William County public schools will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Kelly Leadership Center, 14715 Bristow Rd., Manassas.

The meeting will include a presentation on the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act and on Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. For information, visit or call 703-791-7287.

School Board organizational meeting planned for Jan. 2

The Prince William County School Board will hold its annual organizational meeting at 7 p.m. Jan. 2, before its regular public meeting.

Board members are scheduled to elect a vice chairman, who will serve for one year; make appointments for clerk and deputy clerk; and establish the board’s meeting schedule for 2013. The School Board will also fill the Woodbridge seat until a replacement is elected in November. A closed session will be at 6 p.m.

Flashing school lights
will remain on during break

The flashing yellow school lights will be operating on a normal schedule while Prince William County schools are closed for winter break from Saturday to Jan. 1. Lights are programmed to operate automatically and are not reprogrammed during school breaks.

Candy Factory hosting student art festival

The Caton Merchant Family Gallery at the Candy Factory in Old Town Manassas will host a high school student art and poetry festival Friday through Jan. 30.

The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. The artists will be on hand for an open house from 3 to 5 p.m. Jan. 5; the snow date is Jan. 12. For information, visit
