The Prince William County Office of Special Education will hold free workshops for parents, educators and community members from 7 to 9 p.m. in Room 1101 A and B at the Kelly Leadership Center, 14715 Bristow Rd., Manassas.
The first session is “Understanding Special Education: School Intervention, Referral, Evaluation, and Eligibility,” on Oct. 8. Michelle Roper, Office of Special Education supervisor, will discuss the school intervention process and eligibility for special education services.
On Oct. 17, Robin Blaemire will present “Understanding Special Education: Parents as Partners in the IEP Process.”
Chrystal Thompson will present “Understanding Special Education: Parental Rights in Dispute Resolution” on Oct. 24. Participants will learn how to rectify problems.
Applications for admission to the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology for the Class of 2018 will be available beginning Sept. 23.
Residents of Prince William County are eligible to attend the regional Governor’s School in Fairfax County.
To apply, students should contact their school counselor for applications and information. The deadline is Oct. 18.
