The death of a year-old boy who was found dead in Southeast Washington Wednesday was ruled a homicide Thursday, D.C. police said.
Homicide detectives are investigating the killing of Carter Sanders, of Southeast, who was found unconscious when police were called to the 4700 block of Benning Road about 7 p.m. Wednesday, officials said. D.C. Fire and EMS took Carter to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
An autopsy revealed that his death was caused by blunt-force injuries, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide.
Police did not release the circumstances of who found the child unconscious or who was caring for the boy that night.
No arrests have been made.
