House fire leaves one person in critical condition in Arlington. (Arlington County Fire department)

A fire in an Arlington home early Wednesday left at least one person in critical condition, according to authorities.

Arlington County Fire Department said the blaze happened around 1 a.m. in the 500 block of N. Ivy Street near N. Pershing Drive.

Firefighters found heavy fire across the front of the house, according to Ben O'Bryant, a spokesman for Arlington Fire department. He said four men lived in the home and one of them was out of town at the time of the incident.

Two of the men escaped and were outside the home when firefighters arrived. A third man was rescued from an upstairs room. He was reported in critical condition, according to O'Bryant.

Officials said there were working fire alarms in the home.

The exact cause of the fire is unknown and it remains under investigation. Firefighters said, however, that it does not appear to be malicious in nature.

The fire caused roughly $300,000 in damages.
