One dead, three wounded in Northeast D.C. shooting

A 28-year-old man died and three other people were injured Saturday in a shooting in the Benning neighborhood of Northeast Washington.

D.C. police responded at 4:55 p.m. to reports of a shooting in the 3900 block of Minnesota Avenue. Officers found a man and two women suffering from gunshot wounds, police said.

The man — identified by police as Lester Howard of Southeast — was taken to a hospital, where he died. The two woman suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.

Another man later went to a hospital seeking care for a gunshot wound that was not life-threatening, police said.

Authorities didn’t indicate a possible motive for the shooting.

The death pushed the city’s annual homicide count to more than 70, which is more than 33 percent higher than last year at this time.
